Safeguarding Introduction

At Pennycross the health and safety of all children is of paramount importance. Parents and carers send their children to the school each day with the expectation that we provide a secure environment in which their children can flourish. In order to do this a wide range of measures are put in place.

Policies

A wide range of policies are in place and designed to achieve a fair, safe and harmonious environment, in which children are – safe from harm, know that staff have their welfare at heart, and know that staff will always listen when they want to discuss a problem. Our policies and procedures ensure that we adhere to the statutory guidance of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.

First Aid

In school there are always paediatric trained members of staff, who oversee first aid. There are a number of first aid kits situated around school. When a child is ill, or has suffered an accident in school, there is a clear protocol for staff to follow.

Site Security

Pennycross provides a secure site, which is controlled by precise management directives.

Staff Vetting checks

All staff who work in the school have a full DBS check carried out by the local authority.

Educational visits and risk assessments

The educational visits coordinator has attended LA training. Risk assessment records are carried out for all educational visits and events on site.

Pupil Well Being

Children are active learners and participate in a range of activities every day. It is important to keep hydrated and nourished, so that they can focus and perform at their highest. Our school kitchen provides a norishing and healthy meal which is available to all children.

                      Operation Encompass

The children’s Act 2004 states the importance of safeguarding children by stating that relevant partner agencies including schools, the police and NHS safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Police contact the safeguarding lead should a domestic incident involving the child’s immediate family be reported. We can then ensure that children are supported as necessary. Please refer to the Operation Encompass document and process.
