Admissions

This is in line with the Plymouth City Council Admissions Policy.

The academic year runs from 1 September to 31 August. All children will be admitted in the September of the academic year in which their fifth birthday falls.

Admission arrangements

Admission authorities must set (‘determine’) admission arrangements every year. Where changes are proposed to admission arrangements, the admission authority must first publicly consult on those arrangements. If no changes are made to admission arrangements, they must be consulted on at least every seven years.

Consultation must be for a minimum of eight weeks and must take place between 1 November and 1 March of the year before those arrangements are to apply. For example: for arrangements that apply to applications in 2022 (entry in September 2023), consultation must be completed by 1 March 2022. This consultation period allows parents, other schools, religious authorities and the local community to raise any concerns about proposed admission arrangements.

Starting school in Foundation Stage

Parents will be advised by the Local Authority which school their child has been allocated in March. Parents will then be invited to a meeting with the Foundation Unit teacher halfway through the summer term prior to the child's entry; this will be followed by several visits for the children. These visits may be with or without parents, at their discretion and although the visits are not compulsory it is felt that such sessions help children to settle easily into school life, making the break with home gentle and happy through the first weeks of their school careers.
