This is in line with the Plymouth City Council Admissions Policy.
The academic year runs from 1 September to 31 August. All children will be admitted in the September of the academic year in which their fifth birthday falls.
Admission arrangements
Admission authorities must set (‘determine’) admission arrangements every year. Where changes are proposed to admission arrangements, the admission authority must first publicly consult on those arrangements. If no changes are made to admission arrangements, they must be consulted on at least every seven years.
Consultation on admission arrangements 2027/2028.
We will be consulting on our admission arrangements for 2027/2028 through Plymouth City Council.
The consultation will be live between Monday 1 December 2025 and Sunday 11 January 2026.

Starting school in the Reception Class (Early Years) at Pennycross Primary School
Parents will be advised by the Local Authority which school their child has been allocated in the March or April before their child is due to join Pennycross Primary School in the September.
Once the place has been accepted the school admin team contact families inviting them to meet with the Early Years teachers during the summer term prior to the child's entry; this will be followed by several visits for the children, called 'Stay and Play' sessions. These visits may be with or without parents or carers, at their discretion and although the visits are not compulsory it is felt that such sessions help children to settle easily into school life in advance of the start of term.
